Singer/songwriter Andrew Bird will open the 2011 Celebrate Brooklyn! season in an unprecedented free performance. The classically inspired, whistling, violin wielding lyricist is no newcomer to this city – he sold-out Carnegie Hall following the release of his latest album Noble Beast. Esquire calls him, “The only performer who’s lit up both Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo with a combination of vocals, violin, guitar, glockenspiel and whistling … he uses centuries-old instrumentation to give depth and soul to folk rock.”
