U.S. Premiere
Mysterious London trio THE BAYS neither rehearses nor records —“performance is the product.” Led by the dynamic drummer Andy Gangadeen, who also anchors the electronica duo Chase & Status’ live shows, the group has cult status in the UK and is revered among dance music fans for its improvised sets. They have headlined The Big Chill Festival and the dance tent at Glastonbury. The Bays’ exhilarating live score to Tom Twyker’s 1998 cult film RUN LOLA RUN, in which Lola has ten minutes to come up with 100,000 marks to save her hapless boyfriend from gangsters, careens between hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass and ambient grooves. It has only been performed a handful of times since it debuted at the Brighton Festival in 2007; this is the US premiere.
JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN & BENJAMIN LAZAR DAVIS’ sultry experimental pop project seems to come out of nowhere to instantly implant itself in your brain after a single listen —loosely inspired by Pygmy musical patterns, it sounds like a collection of undiscovered Prince B-sides: “addictive looped guitar, complex rhythms and striking vocals.” (The Line of Best Fit)
